Our very own Rhonda Motil, Executive Director of the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association, was selected as the featured speaker of the Wine Institute’s California Grand Wine Tasting Tour of Asia this month. Forty vintner delegates are currently on a six-city tour of Asia representing a dozen California wine regions and will present more than 110 brands during consumer, media and trade events across the continent. Monterey was selected to be the featured region at the seminar tastings in three growing and influential Asian markets.
Mindful of the increasing taste for wine in Asia, the tour presents the perfect opportunity to showcase the award-winning wines of Monterey. The six-city tour started yesterday and runs through 26, where Rhonda will represent Monterey County in seminars in Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei, October 15 through 19. Rhonda reports a sold out crowd attended the Tokyo seminar and is now headed on to Seoul, where she will pour wines from numerous local Monterey County producers, as well as the recently released 2010 Monterey Signature Series Collection wines. The tour will highlight Monterey County’s nine AVAs with a broad selection of wines from across the County, including brands such as Bernardus Winery, Galante Vineyards & Winery, Hahn Family Wines, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, Tudor Wines, and Wente Vineyards.
“I look forward to the opportunity to travel throughout these influential markets and share the unique flavor profiles of Monterey County wines,” Rhonda said. “We are excited to promote the region’s wines on a global scale through this collaboration with the Wine Institute.”
In addition to this comprehensive tour, the wines of Monterey County will continue to be promoted to international markets through the organization of trade and media visits to the region from Japan and Finland this fall. The MCVGA, under Motil’s guidance and the collaboration of over 80 vineyard and winery members, continues to support Monterey County wines through various programs to increase the exposure of the myriad of wineries within this unique region.
