Palate Pleasers

Kick off the weekend with an incredible day at InterContinental: The Clement Monterey that features two interactive seminars and one amazing lunch! Vintage and appellation tastings, as well as food and wine integration are the focus of this interactive event.

Seminar 1- Healthy Cooking!

10:00am-11:15am

Spend your morning with Chef Robert Bleifer, Executive Chef of the Food Network. Counting calories can bog you down, but Chef Bleifer will explain how cooking light can be an inspirational experience by experimenting with new and exotic ingredient combinations. These unexpected delights are accentuated by Monterey County wine pairings. You won’t want to miss this exciting demo with one of television's most influential culinary artists.

Seminar 2- Pinot Noir- Terroirs of Monterey County

11:30am-1:00pm

Begin to understand the marriage between place and taste as you sip through Pinot Noirs from four different terroirs in Monterey County. Our winemakers will guide you through an imaginative tour of the Arroyo Seco, Carmel Valley, Chalone, Monterey, and Santa Lucia Highlands AVAs, explaining how the distinct characteristics of the territories translate into the diversity of the eight Pinot Noirs you will sample. Moderator: Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Lunch- Around the World

1:00pm-3:00pm

Chef Rick Moonen, chef/owner of RM Seafood at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, joined by host, Chef Jerry Regester of InterContinental: The Clement Monterey, will prepare a menu based on sustainable ingredients. Not only will you get to taste their masterpieces in this luncheon and cooking demonstration, but you will also learn to make these culinary delights yourself. 2008 Wine Enthusiast’s Signature Dinner Saturday, November 8 · 7:30pm $250

Chef Cal Stamenov of Marinus Restaurant will craft a culinary extravaganza for the weekend’s most elegant event. A parade of five courses will showcase ingredients that are indicative of the California experience- hearty and rich in flavor, yet decadent and refined. This meal is a perfect complement to the rustic yet regal setting of the Bernardus Lodge.

The gracious hosts at Bernardus Lodge will greet guests with proprietary wine to complement a Garden Vegetable Roll hors d’oeuvre, while they take in the fireside ambience and find their seats. The first course will celebrate the majestic coast of California with Scallop Wellington accompanied by Garden Greens and a Black Truffle Vinaigrette. The tour d’California cuisine continues with alder smoked Sonoma Duck enhanced by Chestnut-Celery Agnolotti and Butternut Squash Sauce. The gala will climax with Prime Beef Filet surrounded by Porcini and Leek in Foie Gras. And the denouement will be Roasted Seckel Pear and Handcrafted Chocolate.

Each of these exquisite offerings will be paired with Boutique wines from: Parsonage Village Vineyard, Pelerin Wines, Woodward Graff Wines , and Figge Cellars. Each of these craftsmen establishments produced less than 10,000 cases of wine. Come join Wine Enthusiast’s West Coast Editor, Steve Heimoff, as he hosts this revelry of fine fare and old world charm.
