Simon Petty and Celia Chavez met when they were assigned to a duet on a David Bowie tribute gig in December 2013. This led to Celia singing harmonies on Simon’s album, “The Sad Carousel,” then Simon returning the favor on Celia’s new EP, “Dare To Love.” The two continue to collaborate and sing on each other’s live performances so it seemed natural to step into a new duo project. Their vocal blend and enthusiasm for each other’s work comes joyfully and naturally, and brings out a different creative side in each artist.
Having made an album with legendary producer T Bone Burnett upon his arrival in the States as frontman with the band Minibar, Petty went on to tour the country extensively, eventually joining Pete Yorn’s band for several years. His time on the road gave him space to hone the unique brand of world-weary optimism and musical eclecticism that comes to light in his songs. With a distinctive voice somewhere between Nick Drake and Tom Waits, Petty’s songs often take listeners on an evocative, emotional journey.
Celia is an international performer who has silently apprenticed twenty feet from the stardom of artists such as P!nk, Brandon Flowers, Melody Gardot and Julia Fordham. Her current featured role in the touring band for Enrique Iglesias has thrust her into the international spotlight as his romantic duet partner. Her new collection of self-penned songs, Celia returns to the organic wistful lyricism which has influenced her music since youth.
