Matt Costa, a Huntington Beach native, got his start with a homemade demo that fell into the hands of No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont. Dumont offered to record more demos for Costa in his personal home studio which led to two EPs and eventually were combined and mixed by Phil Ek to create Costa’s first full-length CD, Songs We Sing. His most recent album, Santa Rosa Fangs, will be released on May 18th of this year and is his first album in five years. It’s described as being “a stirring, stunning, and cinematic look and listen into the sometimes autobiographical, sometimes fictional journey of the venerable California musician Matt Costa through the tangled groves and grapevines of his home state.”
Having toured with such artists as Jack Johnson, Modest Mouse, Oasis, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, G. Love & Special Sauce, and Death Cab for Cutie throughout such places as Australie, New Zealand, Europe, Asia, and South America, Costa is now bringing his indie rock sound to our Barrel Room on June 7th!
Opening the evening is local artist, Moshe Vilozny! Born in Portland Oregon and raised in Santa Cruz California, Moshe grew up spending summers in Israel and winters throughout Latin America, Moshe incorporates his life experiences into his original songs to create music without borders, with musical influences from around the world. Moving between American Roots music genres including Americana, Soul, Funk, Bluegrass, Folk & Jazz fluidly, Moshe enjoys bringing honest, heartfelt original live music to his audiences.
