Carmel Valley
The history of Carmel Valley is deeply rooted and dates back to the 1800s. Rugged and rustic, this region is located west of Monterey and Pebble Beach, with vineyards primarily situated within Carmel Valley and Cachagua Valley.
This region’s unique mountainous setting elevates vineyards high above the fog line along the coast and exposes grapes to a warmer climate. Still, temperatures experience dramatic swings from day to night, which elongates the ripening time and growing season.
Because of this, grapes enjoy a slow maturation process that instills the fruit with greater complexity, and its terrain and climate generate rich, full-bodied wines. Here, Bordeaux varietals are favorites, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
